So Anything is a project conceived by Camilla Isola, an interdisciplinary artist - as a dancer and composer - and Arcangelo Costanzo, a trans-media artist - as a painter and set designer. The project was born in 2021 and explores improvisation as a shared and multidisciplinary creative practice for the development of personal, theatrical and exhibition materials through various collaborations. Since 2024, the collective has expanded to include Paolo Danelone (visual artist and photographer), Andrea Peluso (field recordist and composer), and Martina Tavano (choreographer and dramaturg).

Through jam sessions, rehearsals and training sessions documented with audio, video and photographs, the project builds an experiential and audio-visual archive in continuous evolution. Dance, music, painting and scenography dialogue, play and transform in a fluid process, where the free exchange between artists and materials generates dynamic works, never definitive, but always aimed at refining each other.

The sound dimension encompasses a range of elements, including voice, flute, piano, guitar, field recordings, MIDI, and live projections of pre-recorded music and other materials. The visual aspect of the scenography features a diverse array of components: canvases painted with oil, acrylic, tempera, and industrial paints; found objects and disassembled furniture; papier-mâché, collages, and prints. Woods and panels are rearranged and illuminated by lights and projections, allowing the stage to dynamically change and adapt throughout each performance.

The aim is to give life to a choral, immersive and multifaceted work, where sounds, images, objects and movement intertwine to transport the spectator into a multisensory experience. Elements of the landscape, urban life, fragments of daily existence, and the energy of artistic expression converge in a continuous interplay of fragmentation, recombination, memory accumulation, and the release of actions.

The work is completed through the perception of the audience, who with its participatory and attentive fruition – listening, observing and with his personal experience – contributes to new interpretations, giving a unique and personal sense to the shared work.

In this perspective, the trial jam sessions, interventions, performances, and documentation associated with So Anything form part of an ongoing project and an ever-expanding audiovisual and experiential archive.

Previous collaborations include performers Catarina Correira Pernao & Sean Murray.

The project was presented as an informal sharing in 2022 at Arcangelo’s studio, at the end of a 3-day diy micro-residency with Camilla and Sean Murray.

In 2023, the project and its research materials were presented as readings and an article for 1.º Encontros Paragone (2023) - diálogo através das artes - gesto, a conference held at the Lisbon Academy of Fine Arts.

In July 2024, a version of So Anything was presented for Arte in Vetrina / Spazi Amplificati by RicercArti in the center of Udine.
